Poly Ibadan SUG Welcomes acting Rector

The Student Union Government (SUG) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan has expressed its excitement over the appointment of Dr.  Taiwo Abideen Lasisi,as the acting Rector of the institution.

In a Memo signed by the SUG President, Comr Oyekan Tobiloba, the student body thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for selecting a “student-friendly” leader who has been part of the system before now.

This is contained in a statement signed by the State’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Saturday.




The statement stated further, that Dr. Taiwo lasis is to serve in an acting capacity for six months with the effectiveness of 25th March, 2024 till 25th September, 2024.

He explained that the appointment became imperative following the expiration of the tenure of the Prof Kazeem Adebiyi on 24th March, 2024.

According to the statement of the Union president, Comr Oyekan Tobiloba, it reads

“The entire students are excited to welcome our amiable Rector to the institution. As the leader of the Student Union Government, we are ready to work with him and promise to support him to ensure all the lofty dreams and goals he has for Poly Ibadan are actualized,” the statement reads.

“We wish to thank our amiable Governor His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde for this appointment. Your appointment as the acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan will serve as a strong foundation for greater exploits especially in academic and administrative affairs as your appointment is based on your dedication, talent, experience, expertise and contribution to education in Abia and its environs. It gives us great pleasure to extend our warmest Congratulations to you on your appointment. We trust that you will continue to put up policies that would keep the banner of the polytechnic flying,” the release stated.

Recall that, he was a former Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Academic Planning and Control Unit, The Polytechnic Ibadan, among other administrative responsibilities that he has upheld in my academic career.

He lectured at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology as an acting Head of the Department of Statistics to date.
