The Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM), The Polytechnic Ibadan, made history on Tuesday as it officially flagged off the maiden edition of the Ascomlympic Games 1.0 at the TPI Main Pitch.
The event, organized by the Office of the ASCOM Sport Director, Comr. Olatoye Ridwan Remilekun, featured a range of competitive activities including football, track races, ludo, and Ayo Olopon, within participation from both male and female students. Additional side attractions were also introduced to enhance participation and overall excitement.
This initiative marks a significant milestone for the Mass Communication Department, as it introduces an annual inter-level sports festival aimed at fostering unity, collaboration, and healthy competition among students.
The kick-off ceremony, held on April 28, 2026, witnessed key student leaders formalizing the event. The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, FagbemI Nurudeen Ojo, performed the ceremonial kick-off and signed to endorse the initiative. The ASCOM President, Ohamuo Frank Uchenna, also appended his signature to officially authorize the commencement of the games, while the ASCOM General Secretary, Adewale Aminat Olamilekan, signed in solidarity.
Comr. Olatoye Ridwan Remilekun received commendation for spearheading the initiative, which is regarded as a landmark achievement in the department’s history. By signing the official document, the Sport Director declared the Ascomlympic Games an annual event, designed to promote inclusiveness across all levels and genders, both within the department and the wider institution.
Students turned out in large numbers at the TPI Main Pitch to witness the historic launch, with preliminary football matches and track events drawing enthusiastic support from the crowd.
