On a Silver Platter, more than 800 students of Mass Communication Department (Ascomites) got certified on Wednesday at a Soft-Skills training program organized by Jobberman in conjunction with the Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM), The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The event, tagged Soft Skills Acquisition was held at Sewage Hall 3 of the North Campus of the institution on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. The training commenced at exactly 11am with the President of the Association, Azeez Kehinde giving the Opening and welcoming address.
In attendance were Jobberman staff including the Oyo State Team Lead, Mr. Adepoju Sunday Joel; a trainer, Miss Chelsea Lanre-Badmus, and other company employees.
The first trainer, Miss Chelsea Lanre-Badmus started her session by giving a highlight on the various soft skills, which include;
Effective Communication Analysis
Creative thinking
Critical analysis and problem-solving skills,
Emotional Intelligence and teamwork
Following her lecture on the various soft skills, the trainer went on to enlighten students on the different formats for writing a Curriculum Vitae. The training session also featured lectures on problem-solving skills.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the Oyo State Jobberman Team Lead, Mr. Adepoju Sunday, he noted that though hard skills can help people get jobs, only soft skills can help retain them. He added that the training is to teach the student skills like Time Management, Effective Communication, and Emotional Intelligence amongst others; which they will in turn utilize for their academics and career.
On why Mass Commubicafion department was chosen for the training, Mr. Adepoju disclosed that the choice is on the basis that the students would go on to become Media Professionals, hence the need for them to be equipped with the required soft skills so as to be better amongst their peers. According to him, if the media is right, the world would be right. That is, the media would be able to enlighten more people about "soft skills".
However, the Oyo State Jobberman head encouraged students to not only flaunt their certificates but to also ensure the utilization of the acquired skills.
