The Muslim Communicators Forum, a sub-unit of the Association of Student Communicators on Tuesday held a first-of-its-kind Ramadan Lecture to commemorate this year's Holy Month.
The event held at the 250 Capacity Lecture Hall featured dignitaries like the Department's head, Alhaji Najimdeen Adunola, alongside the institution's Chief Imam, Engineer Tajudeen Hamzat who came along with his entourage.
The Chief Imam who served as the Guest Speaker delivered a sermon on the topic, "Beyond Ramadan: Strategies to sustain religious commitment." In his sermon, the Chief Imam admonished attendees to ensure to carry out their Five Daily Solah. He noted that the failure to do this would result in the invitation to Shaytan.
Engineer Tajudeen while giving an in-depth explanation of the essence of Islam and the Muslim's individuality took time to remind attendees of the pillars of Islam and the articles of faith. Attestation that there's no God except Allah, Solah, Fasting, Zakat, and Pilgrimage to Mecca, he noted as the pillars of Islam. According to him, "Anyone that can uphold the first three pillars of Islam is a complete Muslim."
While concluding his sermon, the Chief Imam also gave attendees some guidelines to sustain religious commitment. He mentioned fasting on Mondays and Tgursdays, giving alms to the poor, and being in the company of believers as some of the ways to maintain religious commitment.
Following the Imam's sermon, the HOD of Mass Communication Department, Alhaji Adunola also gave remarks, advising students to take heed to the Imam's sermon.
Meanwhile, in a conversation with the ASCOM President, Comr. Azeez Kehinde, it was gathered that the event is one of the fulfillments of his campaign promises.
According to the President,
it is part of my plan since when I have been aspiring for the post of President, which is also among my manifestos. I don't discriminate when it come to religion and have made a promise to both CCF and MCF that the Association will be in their support when they organize any event for Mass Comm Student which I believe the two Associations are under ASCOM.
He however added that the lecture was aimed at reminding students of God's words to enable them stay away from sin while remaining focused in their academics.
