Proceedings of the 2024 FBCS Annual National Conference, the talk of town.

Faculty of Business and communication studies (FBCS), The Polytechnic, Ibadan has organized a conference tagged "Managing Change for sustainable Development in Nigeria".


A 2-Day event which commenced on the 4th June, 2024 at the Assembly Hall, North Campus.

The conference commenced with a musical interlude by the Music Department, followed by an opening prayer led by Rev. Dr. Abel Adeleke. The national, state, and school anthems were subsequently rendered, setting the tone for a patriotic and scholarly event.



Dr. Kehinde Faniyi, Dean of FBCS, delivered the opening address, which was followed by a welcome speech by Dr. T.A Lasisi, acting rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan. Dr. Lasisi officially declared the conference open, paving the way for the keynote presentation.





Dean of the Faculty, Dr Kehinde Faniyi while speaking emphasized on the need to consider fostering sustainable growth across Nigeria in the 21st century.

“As we engage in enriching discussions, let us keep in mind the broader goal of this conference, that is, to identify the nature of change required for sustainable development and to advance positions that align with contemporary currents for progress across all strata of society.”

“By the end of this conference, we aim to have developed actionable insights and strategies that can be implemented to foster sustainable growth in Africa.”She said.


Dr. O.O Oyewo presented the citation of the keynote speaker, introducing Prof. D.A Yagboyaju, who delivered a thought-provoking lecture on "Managing Change for Sustainable Development in Nigeria." Prof. Yagboyaju's presentation emphasized the significance of change in various aspects of life, including health, technology, medicine, education, and democracy. He encouraged the audience to work towards effecting positive change.





A short musical interlude by the Music Department preceded the lead paper presentation. Dr. D.L. Fakorede read the citation of the lead paper presenter, introducing Dr. Nathaniel Adebayo. Dr. Adebayo's presentation focused on "Managing Change for Sustainable Development in Nigeria: Issues in and Policy Implications of Techno-Policy." He discussed the outcomes of change, including positive, negative, and static results, and introduced the concept of "technosolutionism." 

He concluded by providing recommendations for effecting change, including government action, policy review, education funding, creativity and innovation centers, and evaluating innovation quotient.




Dr. Abodunde, the chairperson, expressed gratitude to the speakers and participants, bringing the plenary session to a close. The attendees then proceeded to their technical sessions for research paper presentations.

This conference promises to inspire meaningful discussions and spark innovative ideas for sustainable development in Nigeria.
