Two months into resumption, the students of ND1 Mass Communication have engaged in a range of activities that shaped their early experience on campus. These activities include formally getting to know one another, meeting the Department President and executives, interacting with the Head of Department and lecturers, conducting elections for class representatives, and adjusting to a new style of learning.

Although the class has begun to settle into the academic routine, a few challenges have emerged. There have been disputes linked to missing belongings, rude exchanges, and misunderstandings that are common in any school environment. Some students, still getting familiar with their lecturers and the standards expected, have exhibited unruly behavior such as excessive noise during lectures, inappropriate comments on the general group chat, and untimely loud applause. This has compelled some lecturers to take a stricter stance to maintain order.

Lecturers have also intensified academic activities by giving assignments and group work to sharpen the abilities of every student. They consistently emphasize proper dressing, ensuring that students who attend classes appear in the white collared shirt, navy blue trousers or skirts, and the department tie, helping them maintain a unique identity within the school.

Biometric capturing has been carried out to properly identify all students, and the registration for departmental ID cards has commenced. Students are encouraged to participate fully in these processes so they do not face challenges later for failing to meet departmental requirements.

They have also been advised to take advantage of the ongoing NELFund initiative, which offers government assistance to support students financially throughout their education.

So far, the students of ND1 Mass Communication have expressed mixed emotions as they undergo various academic and administrative processes designed to shape them as they progress. Many are already anticipating the forthcoming seasonal break.

The school extends a warm welcome to all freshers, and senior colleagues continue to encourage them to stay focused and prepare themselves for the long journey ahead.

The Polytechnic Ibadan is no joke to anyone.
