The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Chapter, Comr. Akeem Abbas has charged the Association of Student Communicators, The polytechnic Ibadan to be an agent of positive change. He gave the charge during his lecture at the Ascom Oratorical Contest which held at the 350caps lecture hall of the institution, where he also commended the organisers for putting up such a unique academic initiative together in the department. In his speech, He urged all students to committed and ready to learn for the betterment of the society and do away with social vices
He reiterated that "The Nigeria Union of Journalists Oyo state chapter under his regime will continue to train and support students who are ready to embark on their journalistic career."
According to him, the oratory contests should be a fully supported program, as it is an avenue for students to express themselves, he further promise to always support the academic initiative till the end of office
He also beseeched the entire students as a journalist to stand on the fact interns of information delivery as the media has become a powerful tool, affirm that AI will never take over Journalism.
In his lecture themed: “Communication as an Agent of National Development” the keynote speaker of Kehinde Ayanboade, CEO NaijaMetro stressed that journalists should not only focus on exposing corruption but, also investigate solutions for the society. He noted that the the Oratory Contest was initiated during his administration as the departmental president with the aim of helping students build their language command and enforce confidence for public speaking.
Awards of honour were preserved to the NUJ Chairman Oyo State Chapter and other distinguished stakeholders and past leaders in the department.
