The Stakeholders Committee of Association of Student Communicators, the Polytechnic, Ibadan, has screened candidates aspiring for posts from the department.
On Friday, April 29, 2022, at Geology department, all the aspirants from Mass Communication department, aspiring for different posts at different levels, were thoroughly screened by the stakeholders committee of the department to test their capacity and capability, ahead of the forthcoming elections.
While speaking with a member of the departmental press, the President of Mass Communication department, Comrade Kehinde Ayanboade has identified the screening exercise as an avenue to prepare aspirants ahead of their ambitions.
"The screening exercise is from the robust stakeholder committee we organized, to ensure the next set of leaders that will be ruling the department or representing the department are well equipped and up to task, also to train and guide them ahead of the positions they're going to be elected into".
"Majority of the aspirants are not aware about some things they ought to be aware of as regards the association, and this serve as an opportunity to orientate them. We hope that in subsequent trainings like this, people who aren't capable today will be more than capable tomorrow" he added.
The Chairman of the stakeholder committee, Comrade Oladeni Salaudeen, who doubles as the Public Relations Officers of Faculty of Business and Communication Studies, explained the essence of the screening program
"This screening is not just to tell us how good they are, it is also an avenue for them to learn more and be better. And what we're doing here is what they're still going to face outside, it is the reality of the world" he said.
While commenting on the result of the screening exercise, a positive-minded Comrade Oladeni has believe in what the next administration would look like.
"With my duty as the stakeholders chairman, and what the present administration has and is still doing, I see a set of Comrades, trying to do more that what the current administration is doing. It is not about building new things only, it is about building on the legacies laid by the present administration and if they can achieve that, I'm okay with that as the chairman of the stakeholders committee".
Gracing the exercise was a senior lecturer at the department, Mr Olusoji Olatunji, who also applauded the purpose of the screening exercise.
"The purpose of the screening is to brace up aspirants for the coming elections, to help them know their various offices in other for them to know the nitty gritty of their various offices and to be able to brace up for the task ahead of them"
"However, the aspirants did well to some certain extent, the only thing I'll advice them is to try as much as possible to be more articulate, bold and take cognisance of their expressions while talking. They should also try to use simple words in terms of sentence construction in order to convey something meaningful to their target audience" he advised.
In different remarks, few of the aspirants have applauded the administration for coming up with the stakeholders committee.
"Even if someone did not win this election, the orientation and experience we've been exposed to at the stakeholders' meetings are enough to help us in life" an aspirant revealed.
"No one can say that those people are students like us, they're just taking us to different levels we can't even imagine. This current administration has really tried" another aspirant added.
The robust stakeholder committee of Mass Communication department consist of opinion leaders, class representatives, executives, past candidates and people of great influence and knowledge.
