The Polytechnic, Ibadan 39th Convocation ceremony Kicked starts with a lecture for Day 1 on Wednesday 12th February, 2025 at the institution Assembly Hall North campus .
At the convocation ceremony, the Guest Lecturer, Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Akoka, delivered an extensive speech on the topic: "Emerging Technology Advancement, National Development, and Growth in the 21st Century: Repositioning Nigerian Polytechnics."
Professor Ogundipe reflected on his history with the Polytechnic, Ibadan, and the impact it has had on his career. He commenced by congratulating the graduates for enduring the challenges of their academic journey, which included sacrifices and numerous delays that ultimately led to their success today.
Also , he praised the Polytechnic's culture as a hub for entrepreneurial opportunities, which has paved the way for self-reliance and financial independence in Nigeria.
He noted, "At this time in Nigeria's history, where job creation is becoming increasingly difficult, the entrepreneurial orientation that is deeply rooted in the Polytechnic education system must be revisited as a solution to the nation’ employment challenges." Emphasizing the importance of the lecture, outlining the need to enhance the opportunities that Polytechnic education can offer in line with the nation’s economic growth aspirations.
Professor Ogundipe further discussed the role of emerging technologies in national development, mentioning advancements in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, renewable energy technologies, 3D printing, big data analytics, and biotechnologies.
"These technologies have the potential to drive economic diversification, enhance productivity, and improve the quality of life in both developed and developing countries. For Nigeria, embracing these technologies is crucial for sustainable national development, especially as the country grapples with challenges like youth unemployment, underdeveloped infrastructure, and a largely oil-dependent economy. By adapting, Nigeria can create new industries, generate employment, and reduce its reliance on oil revenues." He disclosed.
Honouring the event with his presence,the Commissioner for Works in Oyo state, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin presented a certificate of honor to Professor Ogundipe. Following this, the Deputy Rector, who is also his cousin, honored him in a similar manner, and the Rector awarded him an artwork created by the Art and Design department. Professor Ogundipe dedicated the award to his mother.

During his vote of thanks, The Acting Rector, Dr. Lasisi appreciate those that were present for the lecture,the guest lecurer and the Convocation planning committee for their support and efforts
