The Department of Mass Communication, The Polytechnic Ibadan, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, inaugurated the newly elected executives of the Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM) for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The ceremony commenced with an opening prayer by the newly elected Chief Librarian I, Comrade Amusan Abraham, followed by an inspiring address from Alhaji Dr. Najeemdeen Adunola, who officially declared the event open with reflections on leadership and responsibility.

In his speech, Alhaji Dr. Adunola charged the new executives to lead by example and not see their positions as mere titles.
He emphasized that leadership should be driven by service, discipline, and impact within the department and the institution as a whole.
He further urged them to uphold integrity and maintain a spirit of commitment in carrying out their duties.

The Head of Department, Dr. Olatunji Olusoji, in his keynote address, encouraged the students to embody the department’s motto, “Grooming Great Minds,” by demonstrating academic diligence, moral discipline, and professionalism.

He reminded the newly inaugurated leaders that ASCOM’s reputation rests on their ability to set high standards and act as role models to their peers.

Also speaking, Mr. Egbeleye from the Department of Communication and Humanities Studies (CHS) advised the students to be modest, courteous, and impactful in their communication.

He stressed the importance of representing the department with excellence both within and outside the campus.
The immediate past president, Comrade Ajayi Michael, and former SUG Public Relations Officer, Leader Kadelu Benedict Oluwole, also offered words of encouragement, urging the new executives to build on the achievements of their predecessors.

The event, which was attended by staff, students, and past ASCOM executives, marked the beginning of a new administrative era for the association.
The newly sworn-in leaders pledged to promote integrity, uphold the ideals of effective communication, and continue ASCOM’s legacy of excellence and service within the Department of Mass Communication.
