The Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM), Department of Mass Communication, The Polytechnic Ibadan, under the Faculty of Business and Communication Students’ Association (FABCOMSSA), has officially flagged off its 2025/2026 administration with a freshers’ sensitization programme designed to orient and integrate newly admitted students into departmental life.
The event, held at the department’s lecture hall, served as an avenue to introduce new students to academic procedures, departmental operations, and student leadership structures.
It was presided over by the newly elected ASCOM President, Comrade Ohamuo Frank, who reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to promoting discipline, unity, and academic excellence among students.
The programme commenced with an opening introduction by the Chief Librarian I, Comrade Amusan Abraham, and his deputy, Comrade Dagunduro Anuoluwapo Ajoke, followed by the official presentation of the newly elected executives.
The session featured practical orientation on how to locate departmental and faculty offices, identify lecturers according to academic hierarchy, and navigate essential administrative processes.

During the interactive session, Comrade Frank emphasized the importance of joining official departmental WhatsApp platforms for timely updates and urged students to promptly pay their departmental and association dues.
He also stressed strict adherence to the departmental dress code — white shirt, navy-blue trousers or skirt, and a customized departmental tie — noting that the Head of Department would conduct periodic checks to ensure compliance.
A major highlight of the event was the introduction of the ASCOM Anthem, which the President described as a unifying symbol that strengthens students’ sense of belonging and departmental pride.
The Welfare Director, Comrade Kehinde Fateemah Omodolapo, also addressed the students, providing crucial insights into registration processes, timely payment of fees, and the proper use of the institution’s online portal.
Fresh students were further guided on classroom locations, course form registration, and other vital aspects of academic engagement.
The event concluded with a motivational address from the President, who encouraged students to exhibit good conduct, maintain focus, and seek guidance whenever necessary.
He assured them of his administration’s commitment to ensuring an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
