The Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM), Department of Mass Communication, The Polytechnic Ibadan, has officially unveiled its leadership team for the 2025/2026 academic session — a group of passionate executives committed to ensuring smooth operations, effective student representation, and the continued growth of the association.
At the helm of affairs is Comrade Ohamuo Frank, who emerged as President for the new academic year.
As the primary representative of the department and students’ voice within and outside the institution, his duties include overseeing executive activities, maintaining communication between students and management, and prioritizing student interests.
Known for his attentive leadership, conflict resolution skills, and proactive engagement with external organizations and government bodies, Ohamuo Frank also serves as the Igwe of the Federation of Igbo Student Union and previously held the position of Class Representative from 2021 to 2025.
Abiodun Deborah Omowunmi serves as the Vice President, assisting the President in carrying out duties and representing the association at official functions in his absence.
She plays a vital role in decision-making and ensuring the association’s goals are effectively achieved.
The General Secretary, Adewale Aminat Olamide, oversees all administrative and documentation duties.
Her responsibilities include preparing meeting agendas, keeping accurate minutes, maintaining communication channels, and ensuring efficient coordination within the association.
She is supported by Bamgbose Temitope Dorcas, who assists in managing records and correspondence among executives.
Hammed Mutiyat Folashade, the Treasurer, ensures transparency and accountability in ASCOM’s financial management.
She maintains accurate records of all transactions and supports budgeting processes.
Working alongside her, Aderoju Adedayo Atanda, the Financial Secretary, manages all financial records, acknowledges funds received, and collaborates with the Treasurer to prepare reports that ensure accountability and fiscal discipline.
Adeyinka Joshua Adedeji serves as the Public Relations Officer (PRO), responsible for information dissemination and managing ASCOM’s image.
He oversees media relations, handles the association’s social media platforms, and acts as spokesperson in the President’s absence.
He is ably supported by Ishola Zainab Ajoke, who ensures prompt updates and helps maintain a strong public image.
Olatuyi Taiwo Racheal assists the Welfare Director in addressing students’ needs and promoting their well-being, while Olatoye Ridwan, the Sports Director, promotes fitness and sportsmanship through the organization of sports events and competitions.
He is supported by Titus Martins and Okeowo Caleb O., who work together to ensure inclusivity and student participation in sports activities.
As Auditor, Joseph Emmanuel Damilare serves as the financial watchdog of ASCOM, conducting regular audits to ensure accountability and transparency in all financial dealings.
Amusan Abraham Oluwole, the Director of Academics, oversees tutorials, debates, and academic programs.
Notably, he was the first runner-up at the JCI Asiwaju Contest and also serves as one of the Chess Coordinators at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
Chief Librarian 2, Dagunduro Anuoluwapo Ajoke, works alongside Chief Librarian 1 to organize and manage academic materials, ensuring accessibility for students.
Tijani Sodiq Akorede, who heads the Protocol unit, ensures orderliness during meetings and official gatherings, maintaining decorum and consistency in all ASCOM engagements.
Meanwhile, Aderinto Gideon supports the Social Director in planning and executing social events that foster camaraderie among members.
The Department of Mass Communication continues to thrive under the leadership of these dedicated executives, whose collective vision centers on transparency, student welfare, and the academic and social advancement of all ASCOM members.
