In a bid to promote professionalism and uphold the good image of the Mass Communication Department, The Polytechnic Ibadan The ASCOM Press, took another bold step in advancing campus and departmental journalism with the official inauguration of the New ASCOM Press Executives, in a ceremony that brought together members of the Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM), students, and invited guests who gathered to celebrate the promising future of the department’s media team.
In her opening remarks, the immediate past Editor-in-Chief, Olamide Olasupo, congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and emphasized that preserving the image of the Mass Communication Department remains the foremost duty of the ASCOM Press. She also urged the executives of the Association of Student Communicators to extend their full support to the new media team.
Also speaking at the event, Kadelu Benedict Oluwole, a former Editor-in-Chief of ASCOM Press and former SUG Public Relations Officer, admonished the new executives to operate strictly in accordance with the ASCOM Press constitution and shun favouritism. He further charged them to serve as a check and balance for the Association of Student Communicators to promote transparency and accountability.
Certificates of return were presented to the new executives, who took the oath of office, pledging to uphold the values and integrity of the ASCOM Press.
In his inaugural message, the newly inaugurated Editor-in-Chief, Okon Kingsley, appreciated the efforts of past leaders and expressed gratitude to all executives and guests in attendance. He reiterated the new administration’s commitment to protecting and projecting the image of the Mass Communication Department while ensuring the press remains a voice of truth and creativity on campus.
The event concluded with a photo session and networking interactions among guests, and students.
With the inauguration of the new executives, the ASCOM Press has once again reaffirmed its role as a breeding ground for future journalists and media professionals.
