Echoes of Excellence, ASCOM 2005 Sets Marks 20 Years of Media Brilliance

The Association of Student Communicators (ASCOM) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, 2005 Alumni set, has celebrated two decades of excellence, unity, and remarkable achievements in the field of media and communication.

The two-day anniversary event brought together past and present members, lecturers, and distinguished alumni who have made notable contributions to the media industry and to the growth of the association.









The celebration kicked off on Friday with the commissioning of several projects within the Department of Mass Communication, including refurbished facilities and newly equipped studios donated by the alumni to enhance students’ practical learning experiences.



The climax of the celebration came on Saturday with a grand reception filled with excitement and nostalgia. Guests were treated to sumptuous meals, captivating live band performances, and inspiring speeches that highlighted ASCOM’s rich legacy and impact over the years.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Adeyemi Adedokun, commended members of the association for their dedication and contributions to the success of the anniversary. He also urged media practitioners to uphold the principles of truth and fairness in their reportage.

During the event, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan, Africa’s first television station, was honored with a special award in recognition of its contribution to training and mentoring future communicators within Oyo State and beyond. In his remarks, the Zonal Director of NTA Ibadan, Mr. Taiwo Iterogba, expressed appreciation for the recognition, noting that it marks the beginning of a stronger partnership between NTA and ASCOM in promoting the achievements and image of the Mass Communication Department.



Fun games were also held for both male and female members, adding color and excitement to the celebration. Students and lecturers took turns sharing heartfelt testimonies about their days of active involvement in the association during their time on campus.







The two-day anniversary concluded on a high note with awards presented to outstanding members and alumni, while guests enjoyed a lively atmosphere of music, laughter, and shared memories that underscored the enduring bond among members of the ASCOM family.
