THE POLYTECHNIC IBADAN TO CONFER HONORARY AWARD ON OONI OF IFE AT 40TH CONVOCATION

The Polytechnic, Ibadan, is making waves. Not only are they celebrating their 40th graduation ceremony, but they've also achieved 100% success in their recent National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation exercise.


The institution has recently announced that it will confer an honorary award on the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, during its forthcoming 40th graduation ceremony, as the institution also recorded 100 per cent success in its recent National Board for Technical Education accreditation exercise.

This announcement made on Friday, December 12, 2025, during a press conference held at the institution. 

The meeting started with a speech by the institution's Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Soladoye, who introduced the members of the management team in attendance. In attendance were the Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, represented by the Deputy Rector, Mrs. Olaide Oluwatoyin Salawu; the Registrar, Mr. Adewunmi Joseph Ogunjimi; the Bursar, Mr. David Olukola Taiwo; the Senior Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Akintunde; and the Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Omotomilola Olatunji,Head of the Mass Communication Department, Dr. Olusoji Olatuji, and the General Manager of Reiz FM, Mrs. Boluwatito Joseph, and many other officials. An introduction was made for the press corps from various media outlets as well.

On behalf of the Acting Rector and Chairman of the 40th Graduation Planning Committee, Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, the Deputy Rector, Mrs. Salawu, delivered a speech . She stated that the decision to honour the Ooni of Ife was in recognition of his outstanding leadership, cultural influence and contributions to national development.


According to the Deputy Rector,the institution has produced thousands of graduates since its establishment in 1970pp and has maintained a record of unaffected academic sessions. She further described the honour as one of the centrepiece of the 40th graduation ceremony, noting that the royal father would join other eminent personalities expected to grace the event.

Mrs. Salawu stated that The Polytechnic, Ibadan, established in 1970, has conducted 39 graduation ceremonies and produced thousands of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma graduates, in addition to its contributions to teacher education through the National Certificate in Education programme.

She also announced that the institution recently presented 42 academic programmes for accreditation to the National Board for Technical Education, all of which were fully approved. A few of the accredited programmes include ND Food Science and Technology, ND Transport Planning and Management, Crime Management, HND Science Laboratory Technology (Environmental Biology option), and Fashion Design and Clothing Technology.

According to her, this achievement was made possible as a result of the continuous financial and institutional support of the Oyo State Government under the authority of Governor Seyi Makinde, particularly in the areas of accreditation and the introduction of new academic programmes.

Mrs. Salawu further added that the 40th graduation ceremony is designed to sustain the institution’s record of continuous and tranquil academic sessions.

She enumerated activities lined up for the ceremony, starting with a Jumat service at the institution’s central mosque, accompanied by a church service at the Lord's Chapel on December 14, 2025.

The convocation lecture will hold on Thursday, December 18, 2025, and will be delivered by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Life Bencher, Aare Muyiwa Akinboro. The lecture is titled Legal Framework and Strategies for Addressing Terrorism, Banditry and Insurgency in Nigeria.

The graduation ceremony will come to peak on Friday, December 19, 2025, with the conferment of honorary awards, including that of the Ooni of Ife, in the presence of the Executive Governor of Oyo State and other dignitaries.


Mrs. Salawu also said that an exhibition showcasing the creativity and innovations of students across various disciplines would be held from December 16 to 18, 2025, as part of activities marking the ceremony.
