Women have been encouraged to support one another, build confidence, and actively participate in leadership and politics at a gathering at the Eve's Lounge Summit.
Speaking at the event, the Convener of Eve's Lounge Damilola Amoo emphasized that the summit was not exclusively for women but also important for men, as gender-related discussions require the involvement of all members of society. She noted that creating a balanced and inclusive society demands collective effort and understanding.
Delivering a keynote address, Prince Adewale Adebayo stressed the importance of liberation from fear and negative influences. According to him, society must properly understand the concept of a liberated woman, noting that true liberation should not come at the expense of positive values and cultural identity.
"Our culture is not negative towards women; rather, it accords them respect and dignity," he said. "We must not run away from our identity and culture. Instead, we should focus on liberation from fear and negative forces while preserving what is good in our traditions."
Adebayo further highlighted the importance of good mental health, togetherness, and equal opportunities for all citizens. He called for the creation of a fair society where women and men have equal access to education and opportunities for growth.
During a panel session, speakers discussed the challenges facing women, particularly in politics and leadership.
One of the speakers noted that women sometimes become obstacles to one another's progress and stressed the need to overcome divisions that hinder collective advancement.
The panel also identified financial limitations as a major challenge preventing many women from participating actively in politics and public leadership.
Speakers at the summit called on women to hold one another's hands, grow together, and build social and economic strength. They emphasized the need for women to develop confidence, increase their influence, and boldly amplify their voices on political and social issues.
The summit concluded with a renewed call for unity, mutual support, and the promotion of equal opportunities as essential steps toward achieving a more inclusive and equitable society.
The summit brought together stakeholders from different walks of life, while students from various tertiary institutions across Ibadan were also in attendance. The Polytechnic, Ibadan, was ably represented by students of the Mass Communication Department, who actively participated in the discussions and activities of the summit. Their presence underscored the institution's commitment to academic excellence, leadership development, and engagement in issues of national and societal importance.
